Text Box: WOODBURN LUTHERAN SCHOOL
PAW PRINTS
JANUARY 15, 2010

I came across this devotion and thought I would share…

“Discipline is a Journey”

“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful.  Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”  Hebrews 12:11

When most of us think of discipline, we think of the unpleasantness of our youth, getting in trouble at school and undergoing punishment are the first things that usually come to mind. But discipline is so much more than that. Discipline is how people graduate from college and go on to law school. Discipline is how people who have been overweight all their lives are able to lose 50, 75, even 100 pounds

The secret behind every successful person is discipline.  Yet discipline is so opposite to our culture and the way most of us live on a daily basis.  Television and radio ads tell us to buy more, eat more and do more.  Psychologists tell us if it feels good – do it! And infomercials are always offering the quick fix for weight loss, younger looking skin, eliminating cellulite and becoming wealthy – just to name a few.

Discipline binds together the mind, body and spirit on a quest to achieving a much-desired goal and the abundant life that achieving the goal provides. God’s abundance and joy are the result of a disciplined life.

If discipline is your roadblock to success then heed the words of Solomon in Proverbs 15:32, “He who ignores discipline despises himself, but whoever heeds correction gains understanding.” Remember, if discipline were easy, the results would not be so rewarding!

Snow Make-Up Day – WLS will make up the snow day from Friday, January 8th on Monday, January 18th.  This is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and was originally scheduled as a day off/snow make up day.  There will not be any EACS bus transportation that day.

Grandparent Reading – First and Second Grade Grandparent Reading begins on Thursday, January 21.  It will start at 9:45 and will last until 10:50.  Many grandparents choose to stay for lunch.  Grandparent Reading is every Thursday until May 1st.  Please let Mrs. Warnock know if your first or second grader has an available grandparent or not.  We will pair those that do not have a grandparent with a senior citizen from the churches who love to help.  If you would like to be a “grandparent” for someone, give us a call.

WLS...Come Grow With Us!

Continued from last week…

The Christian school movement is the fastest growing educational movement in America today.  The U.S.NEWS AND WORLD REPORT and CHRISTIAN LIFE magazines have referred to the rapid proliferation of Christian elementary and secondary schools as the “Boom in Protestant Schools” and “The Christian School Explosion.”  Christian schools are currently being established across the United States at the rate of two new schools a day.

In California we average one new Christian school each week.  Obviously parents by the thousands have opted to send their youngsters to Christian schools as opposed to secular public schools.  Over the next several weeks, ten reasons why you should send your children to a Christian school will be shared by a parent who sends her children to Christian schools and speaks to thousands of parents on the radio and on tour.

THREE: The Bible does not teach that children should be exposed to all kinds of sin.  We are to train “up” a child, not point him downward.  Children do not grow spiritually stronger in a non-Christian environment.

Students do not become stronger Christians by being taught non-Christian thinking, but by being taught Christian thinking, and there is no such person as a “neutral” school teacher who neither advances nor inhibits religion.  School represents 16% of your child’s time.  It is prime time, a training time, and Christian school education represents a positive Bible- centered form of instruction that will build a child up in the faith- -not tear him down.  Proverbs 19:27 says, “Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.”

FOUR: The Christian school is right for your child because the Christian school has not cut itself off from the most important book in the world–the Bible.  Without the Bible, education is nothing more than the blind leading the blind.  Standards for morality must be taken from Scripture alone, not from situations as often taught in secular schools.  As Theodore Roosevelt stated, “To train a man in mind and not in morals is to train a menace to society.”
